Following the breakdown of a BYD Atto 3 that has been circulated on social media, BYD Malaysia has issued an official statement, as sighted by paultan.org. The statement reads:
We are aware of the recent incident and take it very seriously. The safety of our customers is our highest priority. We are conducting a thorough investigation and we are in close contact with the affected customer.
An account of the incident was posted to Facebook by the vehicle’s owner on Monday, describing the incident which took place on May 1 when he was travelling with family members in the vehicle from Melaka to Penang, via a detour to Kajang.
The incident began on the Cheras-Kajang highway when the vehicle was said to have performed emergency braking without any warning or indication, and the owner noticed “Power System Failure” being shown on the screen, and the vehicle was rendered immobile.
With the vehicle stopped on the fast lane of the highway, several other motorists experienced narrowly missed crashing in avoiding the stalled vehicle. Highway support personnel arrived on the scene within 10 minutes, and placed cones around the stopped vehicle, the owner said.
The owner tried to switch off and restart the vehicle to no avail, and it remained immobile even with the transmission selector in ‘N’, he said.
Insurance towing service brought the stricken vehicle to BYD Glenmarie within one hour, though it could only be left at the dealership as it was 7pm at the time, and thus was outside operating hours. The owner called the dealership the next morning, insisted on having an inspection carried out on the vehicle.
The dealership responded to the owner, informing him that an issue was found with the vehicle’s 12-volt battery, and more time was needed to investigate. on Monday, the dealership told the owner that the 12V battery was low on voltage, and needed replacing before the next step in troubleshooting could be carried out, according to the owner. Updates on this story when they become available.
