Geely Geome Xingyuan/Star Wish production hits 200k units – Proton eMas 5 twin is China’s top-selling model

Production of the Geely Geome Xingyuan (also known as the Star Wish) has reached a new milestone of 200,000 units. This comes a few months after the 100,000th unit of the electric vehicle (EV), which serves as the base for the Proton eMas 5, rolled off the line in February this year.

The Xingyuan is priced between 68,800 and 97,800 yuan (about RM41k and RM58k) in China and competes in the entry-level EV segment against the BYD Seagull. It is available with a 30.12-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that provides a CLTC-rated range of up to 310 km, paired with an electric motor rated at 79 PS (78 hp or 58 kW) and 130 Nm. There’s also the option of a 40.16-kWh battery providing up to 410 km and higher outputs of 116 PS (114 hp or 85 kW) and 150 Nm.

Sales of the Xingyuan has been very encouraging in China, with the model being the best-selling model so far this year. In April, 36,119 units were delivered to bring the year-to-date (YTD) total to 125,334 units.

Data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), as reported by CarNewsChina, indicates the Xingyuan outsold the Seagull that managed 34,005 units in April (113,099 YTD) in the sedan/hatchback category.

In other categories, the Geely Xingyue L was the best-selling SUV in April with 23,658 units (103,541 YTD), followed by the BYD Song Plus (20,668 units in April, 86,271 YTD) and Tesla Model Y (19,984 units, 101,873 YTD). Meanwhile, the Denza D9 (9,045 units, 35,990 YTD) topped the MPV segment ahead of the Toyota Sienna (8,248 units, 28,222 YTD) and Voyah Dreamer (6,719 units, 23,270 YTD). About 1.755 million passenger vehicles were sold in China last month.
