Anthony Loke to provide update on status of KLIA aerotrain project next week – media to try it out first

Transport minister Anthony Loke will provide an update on the status of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) aerotrain next week, The Star reports. The service has been suspended since March 2023 after several breakdowns, following which it was announced that upgrading works would take place.

Loke said the media would be invited for a test run on the KLIA aerotrain next week. “We will ensure the media tries the aerotrain first before it is operational,” he said after launching the groundbreaking ceremony of the Selangor Aero Park at Sepang on Thursday (June 5, 2025).

In January, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director Datuk Mohd Izan Ghani said the KLIA aerotrain project was 85% completed and would to be operational again by the second quarter of 2025.

MAHB previously said the service would need to undergo final testing, with the first of three aerotrains being required to run a total of 2,000 km without any failures, while the other two aerotrains must run a total of 1,000 km.
