The transport ministry plans to provide taxi drivers in Malaysia with basic language and etiquette training ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), transport minister Anthony Loke has said.
In addition, the government has also extended the social security organisation (Perkeso) contribution incentive from 10% to 30% to safeguard the welfare taxi drivers, Loke said. “These reforms are ongoing, and I will continue to work with this industry to strengthen the public transport sector for the benefit of the people,” he added.
The announcement from the transport minister came as he officiated the third annual general meeting of the Malaysia Taxi, Rental Car, Limousine and Airport Taxi Association. Loke said he believes that meaningful reforms in the sector can only be implemented through close collaboration with players in the industry, such as the association.
